Bone grafting

Dental implants are artificial replacements for your tooth roots that are placed within the bone of your jaw so that they can be used to support dentures, crowns (caps) or bridges.

Bone loss in the mouth can be problematic for dental implant treatment, since implants require sufficient bone volume to anchor them. Bone grafting makes it possible for people with inadequate bone to benefit from dental implants; allowing them to look forward to having a solution for missing teeth using implants, all credit to bone graft procedures. The grafted material may be synthetic, taken from the patient or another donor.

GBR and Simultaneous Augmentation

Without sufficient bone, cosmetic problems, recession of the gums and exposure and loss of the implant may occur. Guided bone regeneration (GBR) is a surgical technique where bone is regenerated by using particulate bone grafting material and a membrane. GBR uses membranes to contain and protect the graft and support the growth of new bone.

Block Graft

This method is uses blocks of bone to build up the existing bone. The block is cut to size in order to be fitted into the area that requires augmentation. Once placed, it is secured by bone screws. A healing period is required to allow the newly grafted material to integrate with the native bone, following integration the bone screws are removed and implants placed.

Sinus Lift Bone Graft

There are some cases when there is insufficient bone to place dental implants in the upper arch at the back of the mouth. Overtime the maxillary sinus cavity increases in size. A sinus lift is a procedure that augments the bone in the upper arch where the sinuses are located; this is where the floor of the sinus cavity is at its lowest point.  The floor of the sinus cavity is lifted in order to create more depth.

Ridge Preservation Grafting

Ridge preservation is a procedure in which graft material is placed in the socket of an extracted tooth at the time of extraction in order to reduce the amount of bone loss which occurs following a tooth extraction.
